Red Cross documents listing Cacilie Bing’s deportation
Documents acquired from the Red Cross listing details of Cäcilie Bing’s deportation from Frankfurt to Theresienstadt. After ten years away, Hanns returned to Berlin to find the city unrecognisable. He travelled to the Red Cross offices desperate for information about his great aunt, Cäcilie Bing. He was told she had been put on a transportation to Auschwitz in 1942. In fact, Cäcilie Bing had first been sent to Theresienstadt, and then on to Treblinka, aboard a ‘Transport B’ train. The Red Cross confirmed her fate: ‘Nobody survived the Transport Bs’.
